Woodcuts and linocuts

The printing process has a long and fascinating history. One of the earliest and simplest forms of printing is block printing. With this simple form of printing the Japanese created the most sophisticated art work.
The strong lines and forms of the dancers I drew were perfect for making woodcuts or linocuts to be hand printed on Japanese rice paper.
The prints I make are only in simple black and white or in two colors. But the Japanese printing technique is perfect to get the right results.
Etching is a technique I always liked but never practiced. A few years ago I bought a small etching press to do something nice with some of the many small sketches that had accumulated over time. Etching is not as simple and as straightforward as block printing so it will take time until I will turn out some nice small etchings. It’s something I have to work on in quiet moments in my life.
